We made it! The flight was smooth. It took forever to get the rental vans. The weather was warm today. The chaperones enjoyed taking in the difference in architecture and neighborhoods. We’re getting settled in to the church where we’re staying. And the kids are thriving without cell phones. They’ve enjoyed playing cards and Mafia and making a lot of noise. Even though it’s 7:30pm CA time, we’re trying to head to bed since we’ll be up nice and early in the morning. Tomorrow, we’ll spend the morning doing a prayer tour of D.C., and in the afternoon we’ll be splitting up with one group visiting elderly citizens who struggle with dementia.
I pray that this week we will be able to take time to see each person that we come across as an individual with a life story. Each one as some one’s baby girl or baby boy. Each person as once having had (and still having) goals and dreams for their lives. Each one as being a child of God. Seeing each one, not from a place of pity, but a place of love and compassion.
